ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION NEWS

 

            The St. Mary Athletic Association had its monthly meeting on January 19th and several changes are forthcoming that you should be aware of. 

 

            First, I have made the decision to resign as Athletic Director effective June 4, 2012.  I have had a wonderful 11 years as your Athletic Director, but I feel it is time to end my tenure in charge of the Association.  I would like to thank all of the fellow Association members as well as parents, coaches, and students who have helped enrich the sports program throughout my 11 years.  I am confident that the program will continue in the right direction.  With that being said, the next director will be appointed by Luna and Father.  If you are interested in the position, please contact either of them.  A few responsibilities of the director include, but are not limited to:

 

·        Obtaining coaches for each sport season

·        Attending Diocesan meetings prior to each sport season

·        Running monthly meetings for the association

·        Ordering, distributing, and collecting uniforms

·        Ordering equipment as needed for each sport

·        Organizing sport sign-ups for each sport and collecting fees

·        Filling out the required paperwork for each sport, and filing it with the Diocesan Recreation Association prior to each season

·        Ordering and loading pop for the pop machine

·        Tracking requirements for all coaches including proof of PGC, fingerprints, Play like a Champion Workshop

·        Setting practice times and running coaches meeting

·        Setting up the gym on Saturdays for volleyball and basketball games and making sure the gym is staffed for these games (concessions, gate, clock, and scorebook)

·        Organizing banquets after each sport season including ordering medals and plaques

·        Organizing and running the St. Mary of Ohio Tournament in March

 

Second, the Board is also looking for more people to join the association and

hopefully fill the positions of Athletic President, Treasurer, Secretary, and possible commissioners for each sport.  The more people that are involved in the association, the more responsibilities can be divided among members.  The Board is looking for adults who have younger children at St. Mary, as many of our current association members will soon have no children at the school due to graduation.  If you are interested in joining the association, please come to the next meeting which will be Thursday, February 9th at 6 p.m. on the stage.
