RCIA
UPDATE
Are you interested in learning about the Catholic
faith? Are you looking into joining the Church? Are you a Catholic who
has been away for a while? Did you miss Confirmation? Then the Rite of
Christian Initiation (RCIA) is for you. It begins with a cook-out on August 19th, at 6:30 p.m. on
the back patio of Father’s house (to the right of the Church when facing it
from 3rd street). Bring friends if you wish. RCIA
sessions will be held each Wednesday starting at 7:00 p.m. Attending the
classes does not obligate you to entering the Church at Easter.
We look forward to seeing you in August.
BINGO
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Every Sunday dedicated volunteers work Bingo.
The monies raised from bingo help support our school and parish. This
past year, Bingo made $76,759.85. This is a 75% increase from the year before! This is by far our largest
fundraiser of the year. However, we are in need of more dedicated
volunteers to keep bingo running. The crowds are growing, but our
volunteers are not. We are in need of people to volunteer once a month on
a regular basis. There is no smoking in the gymnasium. Come and get
involved, meet new people, and help support your parish through your gift of
time. To get involved please call the parish office at 445-9668.

PARISH
FINANCIAL & MAINTENANCE UPDATE
The
fiscal year has ended and we are in the midst of putting together the financial
statements for review in an upcoming bulletin. The offertory from last
fiscal year has decreased by 7.2%, presumably because parishioners are feeling
the effects of the recession. Due to these declines in operating revenue,
the parish staff has been working to reduce costs. We are working with
other diocesan parishes and with the diocesan department for central purchasing
to leverage our purchasing power in regards to reducing the costs for
maintenance supplies. Furthermore,
we have renegotiated our waste management services to reduce our costs by
$8,000 annually. We will be working in the weeks and months ahead in
conjunction with parishes throughout our diocese to leverage our combined
negotiating power in other areas such as utilities. It is our hope that
these cost saving reductions will offset the decrease in offertory, and also
make us better stewards of the money you donate. We greatly appreciate your
regular giving through the collection basket or
We also
want to thank those that have given to our Bells of St. Mary’s Campaign.
Your donations enabled us to make repairs to the bells this past year.
Recently, we were able to paint and maintain all the Burkley Center windows and
replace rotted wood on the breeze way between the Church and Burkley
Building. These windows had not been painted since the building was built
and were in need of maintenance to prevent rotting in the future. In
addition, the Specht Center door was re-stained and sealed. We were also
able to make some minor landscaping repairs in front and back of the
church. Future needs of the parish include: new carpet in the sanctuary,
window painting and repairs to the Specht Building, restoring our historic
church doors, which are showing signs of age, and replacing the concrete in front
of the church and school. We thank you for your continued financial support.
CHURCH of LATIN AMERICA-WEEKEND

church. Proceeds support religious training for seminarians and lay leaders;
family and youth ministries; and religious education for all groups. Please use
your pre-printed envelopes for your donation.
